Winning Netball Season

Yesterday I had a netball game. Our team name is the Black-hawks. We are a mixed team, some are from Good Shepherd and others from Maungawhau. We were playing against Marist. We were playing for first and we won! Which was amazing because we have never won a season of netball. We played the same team we played last week and last week we won by a lot and the score was 23/8 to us. This week it was a much closer game and the score was 15/14 to us. It was a really tough game and they were a strong team. It was a good game and a challenge.

Graduation Mass

Yesterday we had our graduation mass and I was one of the kids graduating and I was so nervous. It wasn't so scary as I thought it would be. I was terrified because I have terrible stage fright. But after mass a couple of kids from my class came to a place called Morning side and we all had dinner which was a nice way to finish the evening.

The Spud Gun

Today we made spud guns. Also known potato as guns. They were a lot of fun to make but mine did not work very well. They are difficult to make but it is very easy to follow the instructions. What you have to do get a potato and stab a straw into it both ends of the straw should gave potato in them. Then you get a skewer and push the flat end into the potato and soon the other bit of potato will go flying because of the air in between is forcing it. They were a lot of fun and I'm glad we did them.

Cubes

These are the cubes I made in math. They weren't too hard. I call them my gambling dice. They are fun and easy to make. There were also other shapes that we could make such as triangles and other three-d shapes. We were trying to make three-d shapes and as you can see I made two cubes. We were learning to understand and make three-d shapes and learning about vertices, sides, faces, edges and corners.

My Beak Experiment

During class we did a science experiment. It was about learning about beaks and which beak works better for which food. The food we had were gummy worms acting as worms from your back yard and skittles acting as berries from bushes. After we ate all the skittles and gummy worms. With the gummy worms it was easy with both flat ends and pointy ends. With the skittles it was easy using the flat ends. I thought it was a fun experiment and I would love to do it again.

St Peters Orchestra

Today St Peter's College orchestra came here to Good Shepherd and played music for us. Firstly they started with the stringed instruments and I thought they sounded beautiful. Then they moved onto brass and that was my favourite. They played the Pink Panther theme tune which I love. Next year at Marist I think I will want to play the saxophone although I do love the cello.

My Saints Poster

This is my saint poster. It is about St Elizabeth. We were searching up what the saints did for us and what their miracles. I like St Elizabeth because she had to be very brave because of how she lost her son whist she was still alive.

Athletics Day

Today was athletics day and I was competing with the 10 year old girls. There are 5 different activities they are running, long jump, high jump, discus and shot put. I came 3rd in shot put which was quite good considering that I had just had a broken arm and still needed to build up the strength in it.  It was so much fun but sadly it was my last athletics at Good Shepherd. The races were hard but I came third and second in the heats which was good.

Calendar Art

This is my calendar art. In my art I coloured  a big apple and dyed my background to match a sun set. The apple was part of a mindfulness activity. Once they are done we send them to a place and they can print them onto cards, calendars, sketch pads and diaries. I got a sketch pad.

My Comic

In class today Mr Drummond came in to teach us about comics and how to write and draw them. Mine was about a queen penguin accidentally kills all her followers. I learnt how to write a quick story that you don't have to explain it. They were lots of fun to write and draw.

Fan Mail

In Room 5 each year our teacher does fan mail. What you do is everyone puts their name in the hat and draws out another persons name and writes a post card to them and it has to have at least 5 compliments. you can't tell anyone who you got because during break time the teacher will go round each desk and put the one that someone wrote about you on your desk. After break time you will come in class and read the one you got. I got Tupou and Anna got me. These were so much fun an I think everyone should do it in their classes.

Wednesday 10 October 2018

My Shield

In Kia Kaha we were making shields. Kia Kaha is run by the police and it is about bullying and how to stop it. The shields are about what makes us unique and how our class is special.

Facts About The Rainforest

This is my "facts about the rainforest" app. We made this before we made our dioramas. Mine was about the rainforest. In the rainforest the water can get up to 10 cm of rain each month. There are many different animals in the rainforest, for example, there are so many types of colourful and tropical birds. How do animals survive in the rainforest? Animals survive by their adaptations, such as the poison dart frog. The poison dart frog seeps poison out of its skin when it is scared. I think I would like to go to the Amazon rainforest.

Wednesday 26 September 2018

My Rainforest Diorama

Yesterday I finished my diorama. It was about the rainforest. In the bottom corner there is a frog jumping out of a bush, a bird perched on a branch and a snake slithering along the branch.
We made these dioramas because we were learning about habitats and what is in it. We chose a habitat and made a diorama about it and I chose a rainforest as you can see. They were loads of fun and i really wanted to do one again.

My Feather

This is the feathers that we made in class. It was for Social Justice week. My feather is the on on the second bottom row and it says different. They were fun and easy to make. We wrote different words because that might be how you feel about that person or yourself.

Cultral Week

This is me in Brazilian class learning dances and wearing type of hat that is part of a costume. In Brazilian we learnt dances, how to count to ten in Portuguese, how to say hello and goodbye and ate Brazilian food. They wear this hat in Rio when they have a big celebration. It is called the Carnival. In the carnival they dance, sing, celebrate and many other things. One day I would like to go to see the carnival.

My Math Pattern

This is my maths pattern that I did. There were 100 squares to colour. You either did a pattern or just random colours. I did a pattern and I was the last to finish in my class because I tried to be the neatest. Once we finished colouring, we counted the squares with blue and all the other colours. Then, we wrote the fraction, decimal and percentage of each colour. It was loads of fun and I want to do it again.

Monday 17 September 2018

King Cobra

This slide is about the king cobra. You can learn loads of different facts about the cobra. We did this because we were learning about information writing. Our topic was about reptiles and I chose the king cobra.

Friday 14 September 2018

The Turtles Of Namuana

Gina and I made a slide show about The Turtles of Namuana. It didn't take very long. I worked on slide 3, 5 and 7. It is about these two girls that wade there way into the water to catch fish but this time further out than usual and then... read on to find out what happens next.

My Cross

This is my cross that I made. I was the first to finish in my class and I am starting a second cross. I am very happy with my cross and hope the second one comes out just as good. We are making these so that they can go up around the school.

The Author Visit

This week we had an author visit. His name was Raymond Huber. He is an author and he writes really good books. He was taking part in the Storylines book tour and that is why he came to talk to us. He has written many good books such as the Flight of the Honey Bee, Wings, Sting, Gecko and Peace Warriors. Flight of the Honey Bee, Wings and Sting are all about a bee. He also told us how he writes the books and edits them. It was loads of fun and I hope we have more authors come in and teach us about writing and books.

Abraham and Sarah

Today at school we made a short slide in 15 minutes. It was a story from the Old Testament and my buddies for the activity were Setaita and Tupou. Our slide was the last slide. I thought it was going to be easy but it wasn't. It turns out that making a slide in 15 minutes is tough but it was a good lesson. This was so much fun so I hope you enjoy it. Abraham and Sarah are people who were chosen by God to make a new life it was tough because you just have a normal life and then you have to change everything. I don't know if I could do that, but they did and they were rewarded with a child.

Cyber Safety

This is my cyber safety video that I did with my friends. We made it up in 15 minutes and some of it we made on the spot. I am the person on the right and Molly is the one on the left. Anna and Setaita are the people that butt in and say things. The reason we did this was because we were trying to show what not to post or send on social media.

What you can send on social media:

Your first name
Your username
How many brothers or sisters you have
If you have a cat or dog
and many other things.

What not to send on social media:

Your last name
Parents name
Your address
Your personal information (password to your phone, computer, alarm on your door)

The list goes on. I hope I taught you something about cyber safety.

The Jaguar

Jaguars

Jaguars are the 3rd largest cat in the world. Jaguars have the strongest jaw strength above all cats. The speed of a jaguar can go up to 80 km per hour or 50 miles per hour. This is mainly about the life cycle, appearance, habitat and diet of the jaguar. Read on if you want to learn more.

Life Cycle-
Jaguars mate all year round. After mating 100 days later the female gives birth to one to four kittens in either a cave, thicket or a den. The kittens are born with their eyes closed. From there the kittens will grow up like a normal cat stay with their mum for about two years and will start hunting at six months. Jaguars live up to 15 to 20 years.

The appearance of a Jaguar-
A Jaguar has yellow- orange fur with black ring like spots which sometimes looks a bit like flowers. Sometimes there are jaguars that are completely black, but if you look real close you can see black spots. To me jaguars always look angry.
Habitat-
Jaguars live in both North and outh America. You are likely to find them near rivers, swamps and in rain forests. Jaguars tend to like damp, hot and muggy places.
Diet-
Jaguars are carnivores which means they eat other animals. Jaguars tend to eat deer, peccary, crocodiles, snakes, monkeys, sloth tapirs, turtles, eggs, frogs, fish and anything they can get their paws on.
I think jaguars are amazing and interesting animals. I hope you enjoyed reading it and learnt something about jaguars.

Grandparents Mass

Grandparents Mass was so much fun but sadly my grandparents were not able to make it. This time I got eight things for $7, now that's amazing considering grandparents mass is always over priced. I got a biscuit, banana loaf, chocolate something and the best thing was the cucumber and tuna club sandwich. It was so much fun but it's a shame it is my last year at Good Shepherd so I won't be able to do Grandparents Mass again.

St Mary McKillop Feast day

This is my art. We did this because it was St Mary McKillop feast day. I love art and 2 years ago I did dot art but I ended up drawing lines instead of dots because I was too impatient. But I think I did a much better job than my art from 2 years ago. It was so much fun and I hope I can do it again.

This is my game that me and Gina invented but we got the idea from a friend. We haven't completed it yet but it will be done soon. It is a math game. A fractions math game. There are six players and they are colors. It is a fun game and I hope the class will enjoy playing it.When you land on a fraction you have twenty seconds to name as many equivalent fractions as possible.

Speeches

At school we've been doing speeches I did my speech on the second day and I was petrified. I'm not a person who likes to speak in front of lots of people. I thought I would get into the semifinals but I didn't which to me is a good thing. My speech this year was about social media and the effects. Actually speeches weren't as bad as I thought it would be, but I was still terrified.

Animal Classification

Today we learned about how animals are classified into groups. Animals are either vertebrates (which means they have a spine) or invertebrates (which don't have a spine).

Invertebrates are animals such as jellyfish, crabs, octopus and insects.

Vertebrates are put into five groups. They are mammals, birds, reptiles, fish and amphibians. Mammals have fur or hair and give birth to live young. Birds have feathers and lay hard eggs. Reptiles are cold-blooded and lay soft eggs. Amphibians breathe through their skin and need to keep their skin moist. Fish breathe through gills and have fins.

Here are five examples of each type:

Mammals: Tiger, Dog, Zebra, Chimpanzee and Otter

Birds: Goose, Swan, Turkey, Parrot and woodpecker

Fish: Goldfish, Eels, Sharks, Seahorses and Stingray

Reptiles: Crocodile, Tuatara, Snake, Tortoise, Chameleon
Amphibians: Frogs, Toads, Newts, Salamanders and Caecilians

Health Picnic

This is my class. We were having a healthy picnic because that is what we were studying all term for inquiry and how to eat better. That day was also wig Wednesday, but not many people remembered their wigs as you can see. The food was delicious and the sushi went fast. I didn't get to try everything but I'm sure it all tasted great.

Hansel, Gretel And The Witch

During school, for drama we did little scenes of Hansel, Gretel and the Witch. We used the first two or three lines from the script and then we made up the rest by ourselves. I'm the witch, Henry is Hansel and Seihara is Gretel.

Production

At school we had a production. It was called Zip Zap Avenue. all the classes dressed up as a toy and did a dance about their character. My class did ours as Barbies and kens. I was a Ballet Ken and my friend went as Ballerina Barbie. But it was very hot on stage because of all the lights.
It was so much fun!

Here is a picture of me.

The Science Roadshow

In the Science Road show they did lots of experiments. They did chemical reaction and the kids at the school showed us how certain things work. There was so many experiments there. Some kids were called up  to help with the experiments. The Science Roadshow was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it.

Book Week

This week was Book Week. At the end of the week on the last day everyone dresses up as a character from a book. I am Moon Face from The Enchanted Wood. In Book Week we always have a treasure-hunt on Friday and it is one of the best parts of the day. But my favourite part is when everyone does the parade. The parade is sort of like a cat walk but much more fun. Everyone is dressed up in their costumes, parading up and down the aisle dancing to the music and then they say what character they are and what book they're from. Book Week is so much fun!

Cross Country

Today is cross country. At the moment I’m not really nervous just excited because I do this every year, but now, I’m at the start line and I’m extremely nervous and I feel like l’m going to wet my pants. Three two one bang! Here we go but this time I’m just going to start off with a slow jog. Right now I’m running in fourth place. Molly is running in first place, she is ahead of everyone by a mile so there is no way I’m getting first. But I could get second, I know I’m not really a runner and usually come fourth or fifth but this year I think I have a chance at second place. I’ll have to speed up so let's go for it. I just made it past Frankie and Willow and now I’m ahead by quite a bit but still have to keep going if I want to stay in second place. I’m nearly there and can see Molly at the finish line! Just a couple more seconds and I’m done. Second place! My legs are still trembling but I’m done. Never in a million years would have guessed to come second.

Here is me with messed up face paint.

The Storm

We wrote senses poems about a storm in Auckland. This is my poem.

I see the lightning striking the Sky Tower.
I hear the trees crashing on to the roads.
I smell the brisk air as I leave the class.
I taste the icy drops of water as I walk into school.
I feel the rain running down my face.
It makes me feel scared and excited.

My Poem

In class we were writing poems.

Cooks
The beach was usual enough it had: Shells, sand, rope swing, an estuary and a rip that pulled us along.

Molly and I did what kids do: Meandered along the beach, listened to the waves crash up the beach,
hunted for shells, swung into the estuary and stayed up late playing games
Doing nothing important.
