The Spud Gun

Today we made spud guns. Also known potato as guns. They were a lot of fun to make but mine did not work very well. They are difficult to make but it is very easy to follow the instructions. What you have to do get a potato and stab a straw into it both ends of the straw should gave potato in them. Then you get a skewer and push the flat end into the potato and soon the other bit of potato will go flying because of the air in between is forcing it. They were a lot of fun and I'm glad we did them.

My Beak Experiment

During class we did a science experiment. It was about learning about beaks and which beak works better for which food. The food we had were gummy worms acting as worms from your back yard and skittles acting as berries from bushes. After we ate all the skittles and gummy worms. With the gummy worms it was easy with both flat ends and pointy ends. With the skittles it was easy using the flat ends. I thought it was a fun experiment and I would love to do it again.

Animal Classification

Today we learned about how animals are classified into groups. Animals are either vertebrates (which means they have a spine) or invertebrates (which don't have a spine).

Invertebrates are animals such as jellyfish, crabs, octopus and insects.

Vertebrates are put into five groups. They are mammals, birds, reptiles, fish and amphibians. Mammals have fur or hair and give birth to live young. Birds have feathers and lay hard eggs. Reptiles are cold-blooded and lay soft eggs. Amphibians breathe through their skin and need to keep their skin moist. Fish breathe through gills and have fins.

Here are five examples of each type:

Mammals: Tiger, Dog, Zebra, Chimpanzee and Otter

Birds: Goose, Swan, Turkey, Parrot and woodpecker

Fish: Goldfish, Eels, Sharks, Seahorses and Stingray

Reptiles: Crocodile, Tuatara, Snake, Tortoise, Chameleon
Amphibians: Frogs, Toads, Newts, Salamanders and Caecilians

The Science Roadshow

In the Science Road show they did lots of experiments. They did chemical reaction and the kids at the school showed us how certain things work. There was so many experiments there. Some kids were called up  to help with the experiments. The Science Roadshow was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it.
